Situated on the corner of Fredman Drive and Gwen Lane, 24 Central is a chic complex in the heart of Sandton.
Having been operational for several years, Renlia Developments enlisted Head Interiors to enhance the space for current and prospective tenants by introducing a more contemporary design to the internal appearance of the building, the facades of its atrium, and common circulation spaces.
6 Gwen Lane (Cnr Gwen Lane and Fredman Drive), Sandown, Sandton
First, the layout was re-assessed and aligned to better suit the flow of visitors through the atrium space. The position of the main reception counter was repositioned, now located opposite the lift lobby on the ground floor with better visibility and access control to the lifts. The turnstile configuration was increased and the layout improved to handle better entry and exit flows.
The upgrade of materials was an important consideration to uplift and refresh the appearance of the space. The granite tiles on the ground floor were replaced with lighter and larger format porcelain floor tiles. Selected walls on the ground floor were also retiled to provide the space a more robust finish.
The existing mahogany cladding around the core walls and the perimeter of the atrium on every level were replaced with more durable and lighter coloured timber panelling. Distinctive geometric patterns in the panelling create a decorative and textured finish, providing a contract to the slick black glass cladding which surrounds the lift elevations on every floor.
The main feature of the atrium is the 13-and-a-half-meter high multi-faceted feature cladding covering the core structure of the atrium. Finished in metallic silver Alucobond panels, the surfaces of the cladding are furthermore articulated with halftone images of figures in various sizes, emphasizing the movement and the energy of visitors through the space.
New LED technology, increased lighting levels, continuous strip lights and decorative applications further accentuate this brighter and modern space.
